SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Police Department is asking for the public’s help with their search for a missing Vietnam veteran.
Abel Paredes Jr. was last seen April 3rd at Madison Estates senior living community on the 8600 block of Fredericksburg Road near Wurzbach Road.
“It’s very unreal. You never think it could happen to someone in your own family,” said Cynthia Paredes, the missing man’s sister.
Paredes says she spent all afternoon with her brother the day he disappeared.
She says she took him to the VA for his appointments and dropped him off at his apartment along Fredericksburg road.
Around 10:15pm that night, Paredes says she received a phone call about her brother.
“From the home care provider, because he gets home health care, and she indicated that he was not in his room,” she added.
Paredes went straight to the complex and searched for her brother. The veteran was gone, presumably with no ID, money, or a cell phone.
“You wonder how far he could gotten,” Paredes went on to say.
The San Antonio Police Department’s Missing Persons unit continues to investigate the case.
“No leads literally. It was just – he went missing, and there’s no new information,” said Sandra Pickell with the San Antonio Police Department.
Paredes says her brother walks slow, a little off balance, and suffers from a type of dementia known as Lewy Body.
“There are some symptoms that look like Alzheimer’s, sometimes there are symptoms that might look a little bit like Parkinson’s.”
Mr. Paredes is 76 years old, 5’09” tall, and weighs about 178 pounds. He has wavy, ear-top length white hair and was last seen wearing khaki pants and coral shirt. He also uses a walker.
“I just hope that people will help me bring my brother home, that’s all I want, ” Paredes added.
